Reports aren't much good if you don't understand what they
mean. Here's a description of some of the terminology you'll
find on the various reports:
URL Search: Pages listed to be searched will be
displayed here as found or not found.

Matches Scanned: This is the total number of matches that were found for a
particular keyword search. By default, the total number of
matches found is limited to 30. Searches must be limited in
scope or the reports will be too long and drawn out to be
analyzed successfully.

Position:
This is one of the most important pieces of information
Internet Marketing can provide you. This represents the exact
position of every match that contains your domain.
Top
Page:
This is the screen page that one of your pages appeared on
when doing a keyword search. Most engines display about 10
matches per page before asking the user to click to view the
next page but the number can vary. Your goal is to at least
appear on the first 1-3 pages to have a reasonable chance
of being seen by people. Ideally you want to appear on page
one. Therefore, if you're ranked 11th with 10 matches per
page, moving up one position can often put you on Page 1,
significantly increasing your visibility.

Concise Summary Report:
This report is the best place to start. It gives
you a quick snapshot of how you currently rank for all keywords
and engines. It also shows your last report positions, if any,
so you can see whether you're improving, declining, or remaining
the same. Last reported position is the last reported BEST position
you achieved. The page that achieves that position could vary
over time.
Each keyword on the page links to the appropriate
section of the Detail Report to give you more information
on what your listing looks like and who ranks above and below
you.

Summary Description
Report: The Summary Report gives
you all the same information as the Detail Report except it
does not display all matches found for each search. This is
useful to quickly determine the status of your rankings and
what they look like on the engines without wading through
all the detail.
The report will tell you many things including:
- Reports whether your website is indexed
at all. You could do multiple keyword searches and never
find your site listed even in the first 100 positions. However,
you may still be in the Search Engine Index, but simply
not appearing anywhere near the top.
- Informs you whether specific URL's or pages
on your website have been listed in the index. Some Search
Engines only index your home page. However, most claim to "spider" your site and index other pages linked to your
home page either directly or indirectly. Several URLs can
be searched at one time.
- Displays your rank by Search Engine Keyword.
This lists the keywords/phrases you and the Marketing Director
have set to search for along with the position of the pages
containing your domain. These keywords/phrases should also
be the same as your Meta tag keywords/phrases.

Detail Report:
This report will give you all information
of the Summary Report. In addition, it displays EVERY match
for a given search for the first XX matches. That way you can
see the context in which your pages appear.
Power Tip#1: The Detail Report will include
the same links the user would have after doing a search.
Power Tip #2: Pay attention to what description
text for your page is displayed to the user. Most engines
only index the first few lines of a description.

Page & Keyword Report:
This report helps you keep tabs
on the "performance" of each of your pages by reporting what
positions you achieved for each. If a page has some good rankings
under at least one keyword, then you might want to leave it
alone. However, if it appears to not be ranking well under
anything, then you should target that page for optimization.
