Government Programs Are Falling Short

Government Programs play only a limited role in the financing of Long Term Care, and only after strict conditions are met. Medicare pays for just under 12% of all Long Term Care in the U.S today, covering only skilled or acute nursing care.18 Medicaid covers more Long Term Services, but in order to qualify, you must have used most of your assets and savings to poverty level.

Neither, Medicare or Medicaid will be able to withstand the crisis for Long Term Care brought on by the aging baby boomers. By 2030, when 76 million baby boomers reach advanced ages, 1 in 5 Americans will be ages 65 and older as compared to one in eight today.19 Unum's Long Term Care Insurance can help protect you from financial ruin and ease the fiscal burden on state and federal governments.
